5 Tips for Packing for Paris

Visiting Paris in the spring is great! The weather is more mild and there are far less crowds than visiting in the summer! But the weather at this time of year does vary. And Paris does not disappoint in the fashion department! With this packing method you can ensure you look chic while being prepared for whatever the day holds!

Tip 1: Neutrals always match.

An easy way to ensure you have plenty of outfits and coordinated looks is to pack various neutrals. I am not saying you have to pack all beige (although that is a cute look, if you ask me). But when it comes to packing efficiently for multiple days of varying weather, neutrals allow you to mix and match outfits and warmer layers with ease!

Tip 2: Always check the weather in the weeks/days leading up to your departure.

It was April when I was in Paris. The first few days I was there felt like warm summer days and the last day was chilly and stormy. When the weather is in flux, I check the weather both in the weeks and days leading up to my departure date. A few weeks out, I check to make sure I have the basic items I need to be comfortable in that climate. I ask myself if there is something specific I need for that climate. If I don't have that piece already then this gives me time to get what I will need. In the days leading up to my departure, I double check the weather. This allows me to make sure I have something to wear for each day’s specific activities that will be comfortable in that day’s weather.

Tip 3: Plan for layers!

Even though you check the weather, it will likely still fluctuate. The answer to this is layers! Mornings and evenings were cooler and the afternoons were sunny and warm. Starting with a base tank top or t-shirt,I added a sweater of a similar color on top. If it was a particular cold day, I would also wear my long coat.

Tip 4: Ensure you are comfortable.

Going from a cafe, to a museum, to the Eiffel Tower, and more, you will be walking. A lot. I always find I enjoy something more when I am not spending the whole time worrying about a wardrobe malfunction or the fact that my shoes are cutting into my ankles. To really enjoy the city, I recommend ensuring you are comfortable. I wore my Hoka Clifton 9’s nearly everyday and am so glad I did! In fact I didn’t even pack boots or heels. I dressed up my outfit in other ways: jewelry, classic styles, and neutral colors. This way I was able to walk to all the cafe’s my heart desired all while feeling comfortable and confident.

Tip 5: Have fun with it!

It's true. The fashion in Paris is incredible. Walking around the city, I was inspired by the simple yet elegant street styles. But don’t let this intimidate you. You don’t need to purchase a whole new wardrobe. By mixing some of my more professional pieces with more casual pieces I was able to feel confident and comfortable in what I was wearing. Have fun with it and wear things YOU love! This is the biggest tip to looking (and feeling) great on vacation and at home.
